Game Recap
Northside and Creekside met in this first round game of the 2007 AAAA state playoff, and the score remained 0-0 as both teams headed to the locker rooms for halftime. The Eagles got things going in the second with single touchdowns in the third & fourth quarters to pull out the hard fought 14-0 victory.
Turnovers were the story in the first half for the Eagles as they fumbled twice and threw an interception in 3 of their 4 possessions. On the one possession that did not end with a turnover, the Eagles failed to capitalize on great field position and turned the ball over on downs after 8 plays and 19 yards.
Creekside received the second half kickoff and the Eagle D forced a “3 and Out”, and the ensuing punt set the offense up in great field position at their own 48 yard line. Tijuan Green ripped off a 16 yard run on the first play, Joe Scott connected with Nick Bass on a 17 yard pass completion, and Scott also had a 12 yard run to highlight the 6-play / 52 yard scoring drive. The touchdown came on a 9 yard run by Kevyn Cooper from the QB position. Devon Pike was good on the PAT and the Eagles had the first lead of the game with 7:58 left in the third quarter.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Eagles took possession on their own 13 yard line and proceeded to put together a 12 play / 87 yard touchdown drive ending with Cooper again scoring from the QB position – this time from 6 yards out. Tijuan Green was the workhorse on the drive as he carried the ball on 9 of the 12 plays. Devon Pike’s PAT made the score 14-0 with 5:06 left in the game.
The Eagle defense held Creekside again to preserve the shutout and Eagles were able to run out the clock on the next possession. Northside now advances to Round II of the playoffs to face the Evans Knights.
