Game Recap

In an atmosphere ripe with the feel of a playoff game, the Eagles rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat the Westside Seminoles 22-12 to run their record to 9-0 on the season and to extend their winning streak to 24 games.

The Seminoles started the game off with a bang in the first quarter when, on the second play from scrimmage, they completed a ‘pass-pass’ play for 48 yard touchdown. The PAT was wide left, but the Eagles trailed 6-0 with 11:42 left in the first quarter. The Eagles got on the board in the second quarter with a 9 play / 46 yard drive when senior Tijuan Green ran into the endzone from 4 yards out. Devon Pike kicked the PAT, and the Eagles led 7-6. Six minutes later, the Seminoles returned a punt 20 yards deep into Northside territory at the 25 yard line. Two plays later and Westside was in the endzone again after a 23 yard touchdown pass. The two-point pass attempt was batted down at the line of scrimmage by Eric Fields, and the Eagles trailed at halftime by the score of 12-7.

The hard-hitting, physical game continued in the third quarter as both teams went scoreless. The fourth quarter saw the Seminoles driving once again deep into Northside territory. Westside quarterback Orrin McFadden scrambled to the left sideline where he was met by a host of Eagles and fumbled the ball. Junior defensive end Abry Jones scooped up the ball and began streaking down the sideline and returned the fumble 54 yards to the Seminole 33 yard line. The break turned the game around for the Eagles, and they took the lead when senior Brandon Jordan took a handoff and sprinted 18 yards for a touchdown putting the Eagles up 13-12. The Eagles elected to go for two points for a three point lead, and they were successful when junior quarterback Joe Scott connected with tight end Evan Arthur for the two-point conversion pass and the Eagles now lead 15-12 with 10:41 left in the game. The Eagles thwarted Westside’s next drive when K.J. Morton intercepted a Seminole pass and returned it 33 yards. The Eagle offense then set out on a nine play – 67 yard drive and iced the game with a 18 yard touchdown reception by senior Nick Bass from Joe Scott. Devon Pike’s PAT made the score 22-12 with 3:23 left in the game. Scott, in his first start in place of injured senior quarterback Marques Ivory, played well for the Eagles as he completed 8 of 17 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown and no interceptions. Senior running back Tijuan Green, who did not practice for two weeks due to various leg injuries, gutted out 27 carries for 155 yards and a touchdown. The Eagles defense held Westside to 24 rushing yards on 22 carries.

Northside finished the regular season 9-0 and first in sub-region 4B-AAAA, They will meet the #4 seed from 4A-AAAA, the Mt. Zion Bulldogs, next Thursday night at McConnell-Talbert Stadium in the region play-in game
