The Eagles traveled to Thomson, Ga. for a key region matchup with the Upson-Lee Knights. Northside fell behind 14-0 and lost senior QB Marques Ivory to a broken leg in the first half, but behind junior QB Joe Scott, the Eagles rallied in the second half and then held on for a hard-fought 31-26 victory.
After falling behind 14-0 in the 2nd quarter, the Eagles began their comeback when Tijuan Green scored on a 5 yard TD run. Devon Pike kicked the PAT and the score stood at 14-7 with 7:40 left in the quarter. Three minutes later, Green was in the end zone again from 9 yards out and Pike’s PAT tied the score at 14.
The third quarter saw the Eagles grab their first lead of the game when Devon Pike nailed a 32 yard field goal with 9:11 left in the quarter to make the score 17-14. On Northside’s next possession, they marched 80 yards in 7 plays culminating in a 18 touchdown pass from Joe Scott to senior Nick Bass. Pike’s PAT made the score 24-14 with 2:40 left in the third quarter. Upson-Lee would not die as they came right back to score again, but junior cornerback K.J. Morton blocked the PAT and the score stood at 24-20 with 6:49 left in the game. The Eagles then went on another long 11 play / 65 yard drive that ended when Tijuan Green ran into the endzone from 2 yards out on 4th & goal. Pike was good on his 4th PAT on the night and the score stood at 31-20 with 1:13 left in the game. The Knights added a 43 yard touchdown pass with 25 seconds left in the game, but the 2 point pass conversion was intercepted by Eagles who then recovered the onside kick attempt to preserve the 31-26 victory.
