Senior QB Marques Ivory led the Eagles to a 34-3 sub-region victory over vastly improved Stockbridge Tiger team. Ivory completed 10 of 16 passes for 154 yards and 2 touchdowns of 34 and 38 yards to senior WR Kevyn Cooper. With his effort, Ivory broke 2 more Northside career passing records. With his 154 passing yards elevating his career total to 3036 yards, Marques broke Robbie Stillwell’s career (’94 – ’95) passing yardage record of 2988 yards; his 2 TD passes pushed his career total to 35 which eclipsed Chansi Stuckey’s career (’98 – ’01) record of 34.
Tijuan Green continued his outstanding senior season by rushing for 119 yards and 2 more TDs in 20 carries. Tijuan got the scoring started with 5:19 left in the first quarter with a 1 yard TD run. Devon Pike was good on the PAT and the Eagles led 7-0. One minute later, Green was in the endzone again after another 1 yard run. Pike’s PAT was good again, and the score now stood at 14-0. At 9:43 of the second quarter, Ivory connected with Cooper on a 34 yard TD pass. Pike added his third PAT on the night and the Eagles led 21-0.
Stockbridge kicked a 41 yard FG to begin the 3rd quarter, but the Eagles came right back when Ivory and Cooper hooked up again on a 38 yard TD pass. A bad snap on the conversion left the score at 27-3 with 5:13 left in the 3rd quarter.
The final score of the night came with 10:48 left in the game when Xavier Hawkins scored from 1 yard out. Devon Pike was perfect for the 4th time in 4 attempts.
The Eagles now begin preparations for a sub-region showdown with the undefeated Baldwin Braves Friday night at the MAC.
