Game Recap

The Eagles won their 3rd consecutive "Wartown Classic" by defeating the Demons by a score of 34-7. Senior Tijuan Green had a combined 216 rushing and receiving yards to go with 3 touchdowns to lead the offense on a 443 yard offensive night. The Eagle defense kept the opponent out of the endzone for the second consecutive week as the only Demon score came on a kickoff return for a touchdown in the third quarter.

After the defense forced a Demon punt after 3 plays to open the game, Senior QB Marques Ivory led the Eagle O on an 9-play, 61 yard drive that culminated in a 19 yard TD pass from Ivory to Green. Ivory had the best night of his career by completing 13 of 20 passes for 264 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore kicker Devon Pike was good on the PAT attempt and Northside lead the City Championship game 7-0 with 6:52 left in the first quarter.

The next 3 possessions of the game saw the Demons punt 2 more times and the Eagles miss a FG attempt after a 51 yard drive. The Eagles took over their next possession on the Demon 30 yard line and 4 plays later, senior linebacker Jerome Mitchell came in to play fullback and ran in for a TD with 10:17 left in the second quarter. Pike's perfect PAT made the score 14-0. The Demons punted on their next 2 drives and the Eagles had their next drive end with a interception near the Demon endzone, and the teams went into the half with the score still 14-0.

The Eagles took the 2nd half kickoff and drove 65 yards in 6 plays and were in the endzone again after a Green took a direct snap from center and rambled 22 yards for a TD. Pike's PAT was again good and Northside led 21-0 with 9:38 left in the 3rd quarter, but the Demons returned the ensuing kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown to cut the score to 21-7. The teams swapped punts on the next 2 possessions before the Eagles went 87 yards in 5 plays and a Green 2 yard TD run. The drive was highlighted by a 75 yard catch and run by senior Nick Bass. Pike's PAT made the score 28-7 with 11:56 left in the 4th quarter.

The Eagles D forced another "3 and Out" by the Demons - the seventh punt of the night forced by the defense. Ten plays and 52 yards later, Mitchell broke a tackle at the line of scrimmage and then rumbled 16 yards for his second TD of the night. The PAT snap sailed over the holder's head so the final score was set at 34-7 with 2:38 left in the game. The clock ran down and out on the Demons' final drive and the Eagles were City and County Champs for the third consecutive year.
