Game Recap
Senior linebacker Deonta Jordan put points on the scoreboard offensively, defensively, and on special teams for Northside as the Eagles defeated the Stockbridge Tigers 43-6 in Northside’s 2006 Homecoming game. Jordan opened the scoring for the Eagles offensively as he burst up the middle on a fullback trap and scored from 20 yards out at 8:53 of the first quarter. Devon Pike added the PAT and the Eagles led 7-0. A minute and a half later, Jordan and his defensive mates forced a Stockbridge punt. Jordan, who also plays of several of the Eagles’ special teams, then lined up over the center for the Eagles’ punt return team. Northside actually had a punt return called, but Jordan still rushes the punter in this set, and that was enough as he plowed through the three upbacks and blocked the punt which rolled out of the back of the endzone for a safety. Northside now led 9-0 in the first quarter.
Junior QB Marques Ivory finished up the Northside first quarter scoring by throwing a 25 yard TD pass to senior Jacobi Rodriquez and then by running in a TD from 9 yards out. Pike made both PAT attempts and the Eagles led 23-0 entering the second quarter. Jordan finished his scoring trifecta by scooping up a Stockbridge fumble from his normal linebacker position and rambled into the endzone from 23 yards out for his second touchdown of the night with 10:33 left in the second quarter. The PAT was missed and the Eagles went into locker room at half leading 36-0.
Coach Nix and his staff emptied the bench in the second half as 90+ Eagles again saw playing action. Sophomore Torry Veal scored a 3 yard touchdown, and Othman Falah kicked the PAT for Northside’s 43rd and final point of the night with four minutes left in the third quarter. Stockbridge scored on a 45 yard TD pass late in the fourth quarter; Marcus Hill blocked the PAT attempt and the final score stood at 43-6. The Eagles are now 6-0 heading into the big region showdown with the undefeated Baldwin Braves next Friday in Milledgeville.
