Game Recap
The Eagles returned to the MAC for a Thursday night sub-region contest against the Dutchtown Bulldogs, and they did not disappoint a great Thursday night crowd with a 54-0 victory to run their record to 5-0 (2-0 in 4B-AAAA). For the second week in a row, Northside scored early and often and close to 90 players saw action.
After an exchange of punts to open the game, the Eagles got on the board when QB Marques Ivory connected with Nick Bass for a 28yd TD pass with 5:18 left in the first quarter. Devon Pike added his first of 5 PATs in his 5 attempts for the night to make the score 7-0. Three minutes later, Deonta Jordan scored from 1 yd out and the PAT made the score 14-0. Jordan added his second rushing TD of the night at 9:22 of the 2nd quarter this time from 2 yards out. Ivory then connected with Bass again on a 9 yd TD pass with 1:28 left in the 2nd quarter. Pike’s PAT made the score 28-0. After pinning Dutchtown on its own 5 yard line with Scott Thompson’s kickoff, Coach Conrad Nix wanted to work on his team’s two minute offense so he called timeouts on Dutchtown’s first 2 running plays. However, the timeouts were not necessary as LB Ben Hicks and NG Marcus Hill sandwiched the Dutchtown QB on a 3rd down pass attempt forcing a fumble that senior DL Damon Lopez recovered in the endzone for another Northside touchdown. The PAT made the score 35-0 at the half and turned on the “running clock” for the second half.
With 9:40 remaining in the 3rd quarter, junior Tijuan Green scored from 8 yards out. Senior punter Ricardo Negron tried his foot at placekicking duties and added the PAT to make the score 42-0. Sophomores Xavier Hawkins and Torry Veal added touchdown runs (2 & 12 yds respectively) to end the scoring for the Eagles, and the young defenders kept the Bulldogs out of the endzone in the second half to help the defense post its second consecutive shutout.
