Game Recap
The Northside Eagles captured the City Championship Friday night for the 5th time in the six years with a dominating 28-7 victory over the Warner Robins Demons. The Eagle defense held the Demon Wing-T rushing attack to 68 yards on 30 carries. Fifty-eight of the Demon 70 passing yards came on a busted punt play when the ball was snapped over the punter’s head, and after running down the ball and scrambling around he hurled a 58 yard TD pass despite what appeared to be several Demons “illegally downfield”. No flag was thrown and the score tied the game at 7-7 in the first quarter, but the Eagles put the play behind them and shut out the Demons the rest of the game.
The Eagles got off to an electrifying start when senior Jacobi Rodriquez returned the opening kickoff 62 yards to the Demon 24 yard line. Junior quarterback Marques Ivory then connected with Rodriquez on the Eagles’ first two plays from scrimmage with the second being a 14 yard touchdown pass only 27 seconds into the game. Devon Pike added the PAT and the Eagles led 7-0.
After the Demons’ tied the game on the botched punt play, the Eagles scored two touchdowns in the second quarter to take control of the game. Brandon Jordan scored on a 1 yard run, and Deonta Jordan scored from 2 yards out as well as leading the defense’s domination of the Demons. Deonta tortured the Demons all night ending with 9 solo tackles (1 TFL) and 5 assists.
Tijuan Green ended the scoring for the Eagles when he rambled into the endzone from eight yards out in the fourth quarter. Pike added his fourth PAT in four tries for the final score of 28-7.
