Game Recap
The 2004 Northside "Road to State Tour" ended abruptly in Statesboro this week. The offense never got their game plan on track as the Blue Devils stopped everything that the Eagles tried. The defense played an exceptional game however. The D was on the field for the majority of this contest. They never allowed the Blue Devils to cross the goal line.
The Eagles won the coin toss and deferred to the 2nd half to start this 2nd round playoff game. Statesboro got 1 first down and was forced to punt the ball to the Eagles. When faced with a 4th and 13, the offense would have to punt right back to Statesboro. The defense held again and forced a punt. This time however, the problems began. An Eagle fumble gave the ball to the Blue Devils on the Northside 22 yd line and the Devils were able to get a 20 yd FG. It in itself was questionable as the ball appeared to miss the uprights. The referees signaled good and Statesborto was up 3-0 with 1:31 remaining in the 1st quarter. The Eagles again couldn't get anything going on offense and punted back to the Devils. This time Statesboro put on their best drive of the night as they started from their own 27 and marched downfield and settled for a 31 yd FG to make the score 6-0 with 4:56 remaining in the 2nd quarter.
On the next Eagle possession, they would get their only 1st down of the 1st half. This was followed by an INT to put Statesboro in business again at the Northside 31 yd line. The defense held once again and the Devils had to settle for a 29 yd FG to make it 9-0 with just 35 seconds on the 1st half clock. After the KO, the Eagles would committ another turnover as the handoff was fumbled and the Devils recovered at the Northside 23 yd line. The Devils tried to pass to the end zone but had to settle for a 23 yd FG with just 2.7 seconds left in the first half. The halftime scoreboard would read Statesboro 12 - Northside 0. This is exactly how it looked when the final buzzer went off as neither team could score in the 2nd half.
