The Northside Eagle's 2004 "Road to State Tour" kicked off for round one action in Bainbridge against the Bearcats of Region 1AAAA Friday night. The Eagles took the opening kickoff and took care of business early. They marched down the field on a nice initial drive capped off by a 29 yard TD run by Mike Tye. Sean Mayo added the 1st of his 5 PATs and the visiting Eagles were up 7-0 at the 10:25 mark of the 1st quarter. The Bearcats would answer with a 51 yd punt return to tie the gtame at 7-7 with 2:05 remaining in the 1st quarter.
Northside followed that with another scoring drive finsihed off by a 12 yd TD pass from Jacobi Rodriquez to Nick Johnson to put the Eagles up again 14-7. Bainbridge would answer that with their final points off the night on a 3 yd TD. However, the PAT was missed, so the Eagles still led 14-13 with 7:50 remaining in the 2nd quarter. It would be all Northside from that point forward. Mike Tye scored his 2nd TD on a 21 yd jaunt into the endzone less than 2 minutes later. Tye punched in one more TD on a 1 yd plunge for his 3rd score of the night. "Boomer" Mayo booted a 45 yd field goal with just 14 ticks left in the half to put the Eagles up 31-13 at halftime.
The 3rd quarter was scoreless, but the Eagles weren't through for the night yet. Rodriquez scored a 5 yd TD and David Everitt added the final score on a 3 yd run to make the final score Northside 44 - Bainbridge 13.
The Eagles defense played another solid game in giving up only 1 score. The Road Tour heads to Statesboro next in round 2.
