Game Recap
The 2004 version of Homecoming was a success for the alumni and all Eagle fans as well. The Eagles rolled to a 48-0 victory over the visiting Hardaway Hawks. It marked the 3rd shutout of the season for the stingy Northside defense. They proved once again that they were capable of "bending without breaking". The Hawks were able to move the ball on the Eagle defense at times, but they were denied the end zone in the end of each drive. It was a strange sight to see the Hawks offense as they lined up in a very tight double wing formation.
The offense of Northside proved quite capable of reaching the end zone as they did it over and over again. The first drive stalled, but "Boomer" Mayo booted a 41 yard goal with relative ease to start the scoring for the night 3 and a half minutes into the game. Less than 3 minutes later, Jacobi Rodriquez connected on a short pass to Spencer Hill and he scampered 54 yards for the first TD of the night. "Boomer" added the 1st of 6 extra points on the night. ("Boomer" was also 9-9 kicking into the end zone on kickoffs)
Jacobi followed that with a 10 yard TD strike to tight end Nick Cherney to put the Eagles up 17-0 midway through the 2nd quarter. After recovering a fumble the offense took advantage as Mike Tye drove into the end zone to put the Eagles up 24-0 with 3:37 remaining in the half. The Hawks fumbled again and gave Northside one more chance to score and they did as Jacobi found Spencer again for a 4 yard TD pass to advance the score to 31-0 at halftime.
The 2nd half was highlighted by a TD run by Mike Tye from 3 yards, a 25 yard FG by Jan Oliva and a 16 yard fumble recovery TD by Jamie Riebiger. The sub-region win sets up and important matchup next week with the Westside Seminoles.
