Game Recap
The Carver Tigers and the Northside Eagles met for the 15th time in Columbus tonight. The Eagles came away with their 14th career victory over the Tigers by the score of 27-14. This game featured a lot of action. There were some questionable officiating calls early in the game. There were fumbles, booming punts, long runs and a lot of penalties.
The game was scoreless in the first quarter as each team struggled to move the ball against their oppponents defense. David Everitt burst through in the 2nd quarter for a 42 yard run that helped set up the ensuing score. Byron Hunter scored on a 5 yard run to put the boys from Northside up 6-0 at the 9:57 mark. Sean "Boomer" Mayo added the extra point. With 3:17 remaining before halftime, Sophomore quarterback Jacobi Rodriques broke free for a 33 yard score as Mayo again added the extra point.
In the 3rd quarter, the Eagles turned the ball over on fumbles twice early and the Tigers took advantage and scored a TD midway through the quarter on a 10 run by Gregory McClendon. After swapping punts, Sophomore linebacker Deonta Jordan recovered a fumble and scored the 3rd TD for the visiting Eagles at the 11:49 mark of the 4th quarter.
Carver would answer this score with another of their own as Marquis Holt scored from 2 yds out to put the Tigers within one score. Less than 3 minutes later, Rodriques scored the game's last TD on a thrilling 53 yd jaunt that was reminiscent of another former Eagle quarterback named Chansi Stuckey. On a muggy night that the Eagles didn't seem to bring their "A" game, they survived and remained undefeated in this the 2nd game of the young season.
