Game Recap
Just hours before this season opening contest, thunderstorms moved through the area with flashy lightning and heavy rainfall. It was looking bleak for a season opener. But shortly before kickoff, the rain stopped and left the area. The weather would not be a factor in this contest. The Northside defense, however would be a huge factor.
The Eagle offense would receive the opening kickoff and get an additional 15 yards for a face mask penalty assessed against the Trojans special teams. The young Eagles couldn't take advantage of the situation and punted to the Peach Co team for the first time. The defense would hold Peach and the Trojans were forced to punt for the first time. Both teams failed to garner any offense until Northside put together a drive and scored on a 2 yard Mike Tye run to put the Eagles up 6-0 at the 8:08 mark of the second quarter. Sean Mayo added the extra point to make it 7-0. That would be the extent of the scoring in the first half as both teams punted on several occasions. There was a total of 18 punts in the game. (9 each)
The second half was almost a mirror image of the first half. Neither team could move the ball very much on offense. The game remained 7-0 until a 7 play, 70 yard drive by the Eagles culminated in a second score by Mike Tye. This one was from 7 yards out and practically sealed the victory with only 2:29 remaining in the contest. The strong Eagle defense held on to the shutout, which was the 88th in the history of Northside and the 3rd time against Peach Co.
