Game Recap
The Eagles continued their unbeaten record tonight with a 30-7 victory over the Jonesboro Cardinals. The defense forced a punt on Jonesboro's first possession and the Eagles promptly scored 3 plays later. All 3 plays featured tailback Rodrick Hayward. He scored on a 28 yard run as Sean Mayo added the extra point to put the Eagles up 7-0 less than 3 minutes into the game. The Cardinals got into the action 6 1/2 minutes later as Jamal Lewis (future star for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets) picked off a Ferlando Williams pass and ran it in for a 94 yard TD return. A fired up Eagle offense scored a minute and a half later on a 35 yard run by Hayward for his second TD to put Northside up for good 14-7
With only 2:15 remaining in the second period, QB Ferlando Williams connected with Kenny Wells on a 3 yard TD pass. After forcing Jonesboro to punt from deep in Eagle territory, the boys in blue marched downfield in a hurry and added a 28 yard Sean Mayo field goal with only 50 seconds remaining in the first half. The Eagles led at halftime 24-7. The defense did not allow a first down in the first half as they stopped Jonesboro on all of their possessions.
The only score of the second half would come as a result of a nice 54 yard pass from Williams to Spencer Hill. Albert Howard intercepted a pass in the second half as the defense has now not allowed a score on them in 11 quarters dating back to the Stockbridge game.
