The Eagles started out the region schedule with a lot of emotion tonight. In a huge battle against the reigning region champion Westside Seminoles, Northside could do no wrong in this game. Quarterback Ferlando Williams excited the crowd early with a 71 yard run to the Westside 18 yard line. The Eagles scored on on a 5 yard pass from Williams to Byron Hunter. Sean Mayo added the extra point to put the Eagles up 7-0 with 8:39 remaining in the 1st quarter. After recovering a Seminole fumble, the young Eagle offense again scored. Rodrick Hayward scored on a 3 yard run and Mayo added the extra point to put the hometown team up 14-0 with 7:25 remaining in the 1st quarter.
Northside would add to their lead on a 27 yard field goal by Mayo with just 4 seconds remaining in the first half. The defense played stingy in the first half stopping Westside time after time.
Westside would get on the scoreboard in the 3rd quarter on a 10 yard TD pass from quarterback Bobby Stewart to receiver Larry Patrick to make the score NHS 17 - WHS 7.
At the 6:32 mark of the 4th quarter, the Eagles would put the game on ice with a 26 yard TD run by QB Williams. Mayo again added the extra point to put the Eagles up by the score of 24-7. The defense would again hold and the final score remained 24-7.
It was a great way to start the 2003 region play for the Eagles!
