Game Recap
Northside’s 2017 season ended with a tough 28-7 loss at Tucker to the top-ranked Tigers. The Eagles took the opening kickoff of the game and put together a 15-play, 72 yard drive culminating in Marcus Jolly’s 3 yard TD run. Cory Munson’s PAT made the score 7-0 with 4 minutes left in the first quarter. After an exchange of punts, the Tigers tied the game on a 17 yard TD pass with 7:33 left in the second quarter. Northside fumbled the ball away on its own 31 yard line on the first play from scrimmage after receiving the kickoff, but the Eagle D stiffened and forced a Tucker punt. A nine play Eagle drive also resulted in a punt back to Tucker and the first half ended with the long-time playoff rivals tied at 7.
The second half began with an exchange of punts before Tucker took the lead on a 19 yard TD pass after a 6-play, 60 yard drive with 5:18 left in the third. The Eagles started their next drive on their own 35 and behind the running of Jolly and Eric Smith, drove the ball down to the Tiger 8 yard line in 7 plays before a devastating fumble stopped Northside from tying the game at the 2 minute mark of the third quarter. The Tigers then showed their top-ranked mettle by scoring 2 touchdowns to put the game away.
Northside’s season ends with a 8-4 record. Three of the losses were to teams playing for state championships and the fourth being to the semi-finalist Tucker Tigers.
