Game Recap
The Eagles run for a third state championship in the decade ran into a roadblock on Saturday night when the Camden Co. Wildcats used an explosive special teams return game and capitalized on 5 Northside turnovers to win the game by a score of 31-3.
The Wildcats returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown. Northside was then forced to punt on their first possession and the Wildcats then returned the punt 63 yards for a touchdown. On the Eagles second possession of the game, Camden intercepted a Northside pass at the Eagle 20 yard line. A couple of plays later, Camden scored on a 2 yard touchdown run to put the Eagles in a 21-0 hole with 6:09 still remaining in the first quarter.
The Eagles finally got on the board on their next possession when senior Devon Pike connected on a 42 yard field goal. The FG would end up being the only points on the night. Camden would add a FG and touchdown pass in the second half to capture their second consecutive state championship.
Northside's improbable season ended at a record of 13-2 in a year that no one predicted the Eagles get close to the state championship game. The Eagles captured the Region 1-AAAAA Championship in the final year in AAAAA before returning to AAAA in 2010.
